Thanks to friend on Facebook for this web site which gives a quick
look at 1300 apps that might be good for education. The site is APPitic, a directory of apps for education by Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs)
to help you transform teaching and learning. These apps have been
tested in a variety of different grade levels, instructional strategies
and classroom settings.
I particularly liked the section that gave indications of how Bloom's Taxonomy could be supported by apps.

Soundation
This is a free way of making soundtracks for all things ... comes with lots of sounds to mix in a variety of genres ... worth a look if you are trying to get children to compose their own tracks rather than look around the Web for copyright-free ones to use.
Book Cover Creator from ReadWriteThink does just what it says ... allows users to create book covers.
This is what they say fro themselves:
The Book Cover Creator is designed to allow users to type and illustrate front book covers, front and back covers, and full dust jackets. Students can use the tool to create new covers for books that they read as well as to create covers for books they write individually or as a class. Students can use text tools to add formatting to their titles and book notes, add shading to background areas of the cover, and draw original images to illustrate their covers and dust jackets. The tool is easy to use, made even easier with the Book Cover Planning Sheets, printable PDFs that students can use to draft and revise their work before creating and printing their final book covers or dust jackets.

Thanks to one of my PGCE students, Jo Badge, for the information about
this site which lets you type foreign characters, accent marks,
diacritics and other characters online.
The site is typeit ... clever idea and saves time if you are working in another language or have children in your class for whom English is not their first language.
Jo Badge is obviously on a roll this morning ... getting herself geared up for teaching experience no doubt. She has come up with another resource, right on cue for the time of year. This is a Halloween set of apps for ipads, ipods and iphones ... found on Shelly Terrell's blog .
And what is more Tricia has come up with great books for Halloween reading from the Nosy Crow blog.
Also ... 15 Halloween Resource Sites for Teachers from Teaching News.
And ... Mathsframe.co.uk provides software for teaching maths on interactive whiteboards. Lots of free activities ...There is a small cost for total access but at £10/year should be well worth the fee.
